Cece Acquaye – The Art of Noticing

When I began this project, I came into it with a creative spirit that was barely healed from years of abusing it in the name of money. But the very first day, in the barn with the rest of you, I knew I had come home. I came with my best friend, who introduced me to this magical, life-filled place. I met a man who resonated with my separation between art and soul. I met a woman who looked at the details. I met someone who had a deep, long relationship with nature. I met someone who ended up bringing me closer to nature than ever before. I spent hours in a room, in this special place, filled with people who longed for connection, or reconnection…with nature, with each other. We were led by people who are so passionate about this place and all that it holds. I left feeling understood, heard, and less alone.

Over the last few weeks, I have visited Minnekhada with my partner’s camera. Getting to know this palace again through a lens I was unfamiliar with was a challenge. But I kept repeating something in my head – to slow down and notice, is to create a relationship with what surrounds you.

These photos are a part of my journey to notice what is around me. To notice what I am a part of, to notice how I feel, to notice what I’ve never noticed before. Please enjoy, the Art of Noticing.

I am so grateful for this opportunity, and for the moments I got to share with each and every one of you. I thank John, for reminding me of my relationship to the birds. I thank my mom, for giving me the gift of expression. I thank my husband, for encouraging me to return to my love of photography, and letting me use his camera. I thank my best friend, Grace, for giving me the gift of sharing this beautiful, special, magical, healing place with me.
